The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the threatening comments made by a Canada-based Nigerian woman, Amaka Sunnberger, against Nigerians of Yoruba and Benin descent.
The controversial comments, which began circulating on X.com on Tuesday, were made during a virtual TikTok meeting where Sunnberger, speaking in Pidgin English, threatened to poison Yoruba and Benin people.
Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, identified the woman, and the House of Representatives called for her immediate arrest.
Obi, in a series of posts on his X handle on Friday, described Sunnberger’s comments as divisive and urged Nigerians to reject tribalism.
He emphasized the need for unity, arguing that hatred and bigotry would not solve the nation’s challenges or improve governance, health, education, or the economy.
Obi called on Nigerians to focus on building a prosperous and united nation, urging citizens to support leaders with integrity and competence.
