Peter Obi Will Leave LP To Join APC, Says Tinubu’s Aide

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has stated that Peter Obi will join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bwala expressed confidence that the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate will not contest the 2027 election under the party’s platform.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has claimed that Peter Obi will leave the Labour Party (LP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following in the footsteps of his ally, Valentine Ozigbo.

Bwala made this assertion during an appearance on TVC’s Breakfast show on Wednesday, March 12, 2024. He based his claim on Ozigbo’s recent defection to the APC, describing him as Obi’s “custodian.”

“Do you know we are emptying the Labour Party? Not because we asked them to come, but because they are coming. Valentine Ozigbo has joined us. Balami has joined us. Even Peter Obi will join us. Peter Obi will not run under the Labour Party—we are all leaving the party,” Bwala stated.

He further emphasized, “For Valentine Ozigbo to join our party—Ozigbo, who is actually the custodian of Peter Obi—I know for a fact that Peter Obi will follow.”

It is worth noting that three weeks ago, Ozigbo announced his resignation from the LP, citing the party’s internal crisis. Shortly after joining the APC, he expressed optimism about welcoming Obi to the ruling party.

“I told him a few things—not about joining the APC—but I would like to welcome him if he ever chooses to,” Ozigbo stated.

Meanwhile, there has been speculation that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi may join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as part of efforts to strengthen a proposed coalition against the ruling APC.

Rumors of Obi’s possible exit from the Labour Party (LP) gained traction following the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, from the APC to the SDP.

Despite the growing speculation, Obi has remained silent on the matter, even as the LP has pledged to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the Southeast.
