A 30-year-old woman, Hauwa Yusuf, was apprehended by the Special Tactical Squad (STS) on August 14, 2024, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway for hiding an AK-47 rifle and four AK magazines inside a sack of garri.
Yusuf, who was traveling from Lafia, Nasarawa State to Katsina State in a Sienna bus, was stopped during a routine search.
The Force spokesperson, stated that Yusuf confessed during interrogation that she was instructed by Aminu Basullube, a notorious bandit in Katsina State, to transport the arms from the Danum Madam Camp area. The rifle, which lacked a breach number, and the magazines were found concealed within the garri.
However, Yusuf told journalists she was unaware of the weapon’s presence. She claimed she was instructed to transport millet but received garri instead. Yusuf also revealed she was paid ₦130,000 for the delivery, with ₦15,000 allocated for transport, and admitted to not questioning the contents of the sack.
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by the STS to disrupt illegal arms trafficking and ensure security along major routes.
