CRIME- The Delta State Police Command says Inspector Ebri Ubi who killed a man identified as Emmanuel Onyeka Ibe for refusing to give a bribe of N100 has been dismissed from the force.
The Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bright Edafe, who confirmed Ebri’s dismissal, said he would be charged to court today (Wednesday) for proper prosecution.
It was reported that the dismissed inspector, formerly attached to Area Command, Asaba shot dead the late Onyeka, a phone dealer at the popular Ogbogonogo Market, after the heated argument over a N100 bribe.
The youths angered by the barbaric killing of the Imo-born businessman, carried his dead body on a wheelbarrow from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, to the Police headquarters, about two kilometres and dumped the corpse at the entrance of the building, calling on the police authorities to prosecute the case.
Edafe said the police commissioner on receipt of the tragic news immediately ordered the arrest and detention of the errant police officer and directed his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
He assured that the offending officer would be subjected to internal disciplinary measures, including criminal prosecution.
