Former Presidential spokesperson, Doyin Okupe, has come to President Bola Tinubu’s defense over his two-week holiday trip to the United Kingdom, saying the president needs time to reflect and review his administration’s progress.
Okupe criticized Nigerians who have been condemning the trip, stating that they are uninformed about how presidents operate during national crises.
According to Okupe, Tinubu’s decision to take a break is strategic, allowing him to avoid “undue interference from political associates” as he considers reshuffling his cabinet. Okupe believes the president wants to recharge and chart a new course for his administration, which has been in office for 17 months.
Okupe’s defense of Tinubu’s trip comes amidst widespread criticism from Nigerians, who question the timing and necessity of the president’s vacation.
However, Okupe, who has previously supported Tinubu’s economic recovery plan, insists that the president’s move is a deliberate attempt to step back, reassess, and make informed decisions about his administration’s future.
