President Bola Tinubu has announced a significant cabinet reshuffle, appointing seven new ministers and reassigning ten others in a bid to reinvigorate his administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency.
The changes were approved during Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting, marking a major overhaul of Tinubu’s cabinet since taking office over a year ago.
The widow of late Biafra leader Odumegwu Ojukwu, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has been appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Jumoke Oduwole, formerly Tinubu’s Special Adviser on PEBEC and Investment, takes the helm as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.
Other notable appointments include Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment, Idi Maiha as Minister of the newly created Livestock Development Ministry, and Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.
In addition to the new appointments, Tinubu has reassigned ten ministers to new portfolios. Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda replaces Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while Suwaiba Ahmad becomes Minister of State for Education.
The cabinet shake-up also saw the dismissal of five ministers, including Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (State, Housing), and Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development).
As part of the restructuring, Tinubu has renamed the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to Ministry of Regional Development, overseeing all regional development commissions. The Ministry of Sports Development has been eliminated, with its functions transferred to the National Sports Commission, now chaired by Shehu Dikko. The former Sports Minister, Sunday Dare has been appointed Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation.
