A former Quran teacher at AlMaghrib Institute, Wisam Sharieff, has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to produce child pornography.
Sharieff, who taught over 25,000 students worldwide, is currently being held in a Texas jail pending trial due to the severity of the allegations and considered a flight risk.
According to court documents, Sharieff’s wife reported finding videos of a minor female child watching adult pornography on his phone.
The child’s mother, an Alabama resident and Sharieff’s student, allegedly explained sexual acts to the child and streamed adult pornography, which was shared with Sharieff.
The affidavit states that Sharieff told the child’s mother that achieving an orgasm would spiritually benefit her and enhance her communication with Allah. The mother then purchased a sex toy and instructed the child on its use before sharing the footage with Sharieff.
AlMaghrib Institute terminated Sharieff’s employment citing a violation of their code of conduct.
The institute emphasized its commitment to providing a safe environment for students and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for instructors engaging in romantic relationships with students.
The alleged victim was not an AlMaghrib Institute student, and law enforcement did not involve the institute in their investigation. AlMaghrib Institute encourages concerned students to reach out to [email protected].
Sharieff has not issued a statement on the matter. The case is ongoing, and the justice system will handle the allegations. AlMaghrib Institute’s Quran Revolution program will continue as scheduled.
