Ramadan 2023: Saudi Arabia Calls On Muslims To Spot Crescent Moon

RAMADAN- Saudi Arabia has called on Muslims to sight the Ramadan crescent moon on the evening of March 21, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The crescent moon marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

According to the State news agency SPA, the country’s Supreme Court has requested anyone who sights the crescent moon, whether with the naked eye or using binoculars, to report it to the nearest court and register their testimony.

Alternatively, they can contact the nearest relevant authorities to guide them.

Ramadan is a Holy month in Islam where Muslims fast from pre-sunrise to sunset fast lasts anywhere from 12 to 18 hours, depending on where you are in the world.

Muslims believe that Ramadan is the month when the first verses of the holy book Qur’an were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad more than 1,400 years ago.

The fast entails abstinence from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations during daylight hours to achieve greater “taqwa”, or consciousness of God.
