Sada Soli, the representative of Jibia/Kaita Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform bills, stating that they did not follow the proper drafting process.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday, Soli argued that Tinubu received poor advice on the bills, which, according to him, were not drafted by professionals and were therefore poorly executed.
“Let’s be fair to Mr. President. For a President to make a decision, he has to rely on advice. I believe the President was poorly advised,” Soli stated.
“The people who drafted these bills did a poor job from the start, as they mistakenly referred to them as Acts. When I read the bills, it was clear they were not properly drafted or reviewed by professional drafters.
“We have to be fair to the President—he is just one individual who relied on advice from his consultants. Unfortunately, the bills did not go through the proper process they should have followed.
“Bola Tinubu is known for his political sagacity and inclusive leadership. To be fair to him, when he realized the bills could create issues, he subjected them to thorough scrutiny, allowing governors to review them.”
Tinubu directed the Senate to consult with the Attorney General of the Federation and also engaged in discussions with the Speaker and members of the House of Representatives to conduct a thorough review of the bills before considering them.
Reports indicate that the tax reform bills passed their second reading in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. With this stage completed, the bills will now move to committee review, where lawmakers will examine the raised concerns and consider potential amendments before final approval.
