This year many celebrities made headlines because of their crashed marriages. So many celebrity marriages kissed the dust owing to irreconcilable differences, lack of understanding, domestic violence, infidelity, financial independence and pursuit of happiness or fame, among others.
As 2022 come to an end, we look at five celebrities and the reasons why their marriages crashed.
1.Basketmouth
Stand-up comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, in a public statement on Thursday, 22nd of December, announced on Facebook and Instagram that his marriage with his wife, Elsie, has sadly ended after 12 years of marriage.
Basketmouth, described the separation as an “unavoidable situation”.
The separation shocked a lot of fans as the couple was known to be head over heels in love with each other.
Few hours later, netizens dug up old footage of Basketmouth and his estranged wife, promising that divorce won’t be an option in their marriage.
2.Do2dtun
On 16th December 2022, Omotayo, the wife of the famous OAP, Kayode Ojuolape Oladotun best known as Do2dtun, files for divorce over domestic abuse.
The couple who have been married since 2013 with two children are getting divorced over allegations of forced abortion, domestic violence and emotional abuse from the CoolFM’s personality.
3.Julius Agwu
Julius Agwu confirmed his separation from his wife, Ibiere Maclayton, during an Instagram live session with popular Nigerian broadcaster and socialite, Ifedayo Olarinde, a.k.a Daddy Freeze.
He claimed his wife stated that she was tired of being married to him.
4.Gideon Okeke
Nollywood actor, Gideon Okeke in October 2022, broke the news of his separation from his wife, Chidera Uduezue, on his Instagram story amid separation rumours that trailed them for over a year.
The father of two didn’t reveal the reason for their split but urged Nigerians to pray for his family.
The pair were married in 2018.
5. Funke Akindele
Also in June, Abdulrasheed Bello, better known as JJC Skillz, confirmed on instagram that his marriage with famous Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele had ended six years after several rumours of separation.
JJC Skillz announced to the public that they are both “pursuing separate lives.”
However, this was not Ms Akindele’s first marriage.
Ms Akindele married her first husband, Mr Kehinde Oloyede, on May 26, 2012. The couple divorced in July 2013, citing irreconcilable differences.
She is presently the running mate to the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor.y
