Rivers Governor Fubara Denies Receiving Ultimatum Letter From State Assembly

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied receiving a letter from the state House of Assembly, which gave him a 48-hour ultimatum to present the 2025 budget.

The ultimatum, issued by the Martin Amaewhule-led Assembly, expires today, Wednesday, March 5.

In a letter to the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, stated that as of Tuesday, March 4, the government had not received the letter. Danagogo emphasized that Governor Fubara remains committed to implementing the Supreme Court’s decisions, despite his personal opinions.

Meanwhile, prominent Niger Delta leader Asari Dokubo has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister Nyesom Wike, and 27 lawmakers in Rivers State to abandon any plans to impeach Governor Fubara. Dokubo cautioned that such a move could destabilize the state and lead to political unrest.

The political tension in Rivers State has heightened following the Supreme Court ruling that recognized the legitimacy of the 27 lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the APC. These lawmakers, loyal to Wike, were reinstated, shifting the balance of power in the state’s legislative arm.
