Panic gripped the Abubor Nnewichi community in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State when a mother and her four children died from suspected food poisoning.
The victims, identified as Onyinye and her children Miracle, Dominion, Amanda, and Kosi, reportedly passed away after consuming their dinner on Monday.
The exact cause of the poisoning remains unclear. The husband and father of the deceased, who was not home at the time, was hospitalized after suffering shock upon discovering his family’s lifeless bodies.
Two other siblings, a boy and a girl, escaped the tragedy as they were not living with their parents in Nnewi.
Anambra State Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing. The bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
“It is a case of sudden and unnatural death reported to the command,” Ikenga stated.
