Terror Group Lakurawa Figured in Zamfara Explosion

A deadly explosion occurred along the Dansadau-Gusau Road in Zamfara State’s Maru Local Government Area on Wednesday, leaving one person dead and three others seriously injured.

According to the state’s police commissioner, Muhammed Dalijan, the newly formed terror group Lakurawa is responsible for the blast.

Dalijan explained that the group, which was dislodged by the Army in Sokoto and Kebbi, was attempting to find new enclaves when they planted the bomb under a bridge. The explosion occurred when a motorist drove over the bomb, triggering the blast.

Members of the Lakurawa group were seen around the scene of the incident shortly before the explosion.

The police commissioner noted that the planting of explosive devices is a new development in Zamfara State, and that the bandits operating in the state do not have the capacity to improvise such devices. This, he said, confirms that Lakurawa is responsible for the explosion.

Zamfara State has been plagued by banditry, with Governor Dauda Lawal describing it as the “hub of banditry” in Nigeria. The governor believes that the bandits can be eliminated in two weeks with the right political will.

The military has vowed to eliminate Lakurawa insurgents and other terror groups operating in the region. The explosion has raised concerns about the growing threat of terrorism in Zamfara State and the need for increased security measures to protect lives and property.

The incident is a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing Zamfara State and the need for a concerted effort to address the root causes of terrorism and banditry in the region.
