An international religious organisation of the Catholic Church, Salesians of Don Bosco, in a piece of recent information is set to organise summer activities for over 180 children in Lagos.
According to the The Coordinator, Don Bosco Child Protection Centre, Father Linus Nkemjinaka, made this known at a Press Conference on The Oratory movie in support of the Salesians of Saint John Bosco Child Protection Centre for Street Children.
Father Linus Said “As we all know, the mandate of the Don Bosco Child Protection Centre is to focus on the plights of street children and help them rediscover their dreams and aspirations.
“We have continuously done this and we are putting up summer activities for over 180 children this month. At the Child Protection Centre, we take kids off the streets and rehabilitate them.
“We don’t just rehabilitate, we reintegrate and also follow up. They are humans and we ensure they are well catered for also.”
Meanwhile, the Salesians showcased the plight of street kids through a movie, ‘The Oratory’.
The movie depicts the real-life story of a catholic priest who was known for helping the poor and abandoned children of Turin.
The movie, which was shot at various locations in Rome, Atlanta, Lagos and Turin, was directed by Obi Emelonye, an award-winning director, and produced by Rev. Fr. Cyril Odia, a Nigerian Salesian priest.
The Don Bosco Child Protection Centre, through partnerships with Lagos State Government, NAPTIP and other relevant government agencies, also raise awareness about the menace of illegal migrations.
The internationally acclaimed movie stars Enyinna Nwigwe, Rich Lowe Ikenna, Florence Okechukwu, Lawrence Nwali, Andrea Ferrara, Stephen Ogunnote, among others. It also featured many of the poor street kids in Makoko, a slum in Lagos.
