Tinubu Postpones Federal Executive Council Meeting to Honor Late Chief of Army Staff

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council meeting, initially scheduled for today, to a later date in honor of Late Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff who passed away on Tuesday night.

The President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, made the announcement in a statement, citing the need to pay tribute to General Lagbaja’s remarkable service to the nation.

General Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff in June 19, 2023, until his death on November 5, 2024. He was known for his tireless efforts in combating insurgency, armed banditry, and violent extremism, earning him great admiration from the Nigerian Army and the nation.

As a sign of respect, President Tinubu has ordered flags to be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days.

Additionally, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has cancelled all non-essential personal and social engagements for the next two days in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff.

The Nigeria Police Force has expressed deep sadness over General Lagbaja’s sudden passing, praising his dedication to the nation’s security.

“His legacy and commitment to Nigeria’s security will never be forgotten,” said the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

General Lagbaja’s death was confirmed by the presidency on Wednesday morning, after he had been away for a while due to an undisclosed ailment.
