A horrific accident occurred on Wednesday along the Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi route, leaving six people dead and 14 vehicles burnt. The incident happened when a trailer lost control and crashed into a stationary vehicle trapped in traffic, causing a massive inferno.
According to Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, the impact of the crash engulfed several vehicles, triggering panic and chaos among bystanders and motorists. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, battling thick smoke and intense heat to rescue those trapped.
Sadly, six victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel, and their remains have been deposited at Karu General Hospital Morgue. The FCT Police Command has extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and assures the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the disaster and prevent future occurrences.
This incident adds to the growing concern over explosions across Nigeria in recent months. Just last week, an explosion at the Otedola Bridge in Lagos claimed two lives and razed 12 vehicles. A tanker loaded with gas burst into flames, destroying a building and injuring three others. Emergency responders intervened to put out the fire.
The FCT Police Command has restored normal traffic flow in the area, thanks to the intervention of the police, fire service personnel, and security agencies.
