U.S. President-elect, Donald Trump has described the United States as a “disaster” and a “laughing stock all over the world” following a deadly incident in New Orleans, where a U.S. Army veteran allegedly inspired by the Islamic State rammed a pickup truck into New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street.
The attack left at least 15 people dead.
In a post on his X handle on Thursday, Trump criticized the country’s leadership, attributing the tragedy to what he called “open borders” and “weak, ineffective, and virtually nonexistent leadership.” He also accused the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Democrat-led state and local prosecutors of failing to do their jobs.
“This is what happens when you have OPEN BORDERS,” Trump wrote. “The DOJ, FBI, and Democrat state and local prosecutors have not done their job. They are incompetent and corrupt, having spent all of their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, ME, rather than focusing on protecting Americans.”
The former president urged the CIA to take immediate action, warning of a “violent erosion of Safety, National Security, and Democracy” across the nation.
Trump concluded his statement with a call for “strength and powerful leadership” to address the situation, ending with his signature phrase: “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The New Orleans attack has reignited debates over national security and leadership, with critics and supporters offering differing views on Trump’s claims. Law enforcement authorities continue to investigate the attack, which has heightened concerns over domestic terrorism.
