The United States has issued immediate self-deportation orders to migrants who entered the country under former President Joe Biden’s CBP One app policy, following a major immigration policy reversal by the Trump administration.
A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that “formal termination notices” have been sent to certain individuals labeled as “illegal aliens,” though specific selection criteria were not disclosed.
Affected migrants have been urged to voluntarily self-deport using the CBP Home App or face forced removal and a permanent ban from reentry.
More than 930,000 migrants who utilized the CBP One app introduced in January 2023 to schedule legal appointments at border entry points could be impacted, according to National Public Radio.
President Donald Trump, who returned to office earlier this year, terminated the CBP One app on his first day back in the White House. The platform had been a central part of Biden’s humanitarian parole approach to managing southern border entries.
“Canceling these paroles is a promise kept to the American people to secure our borders and protect national security,” said the DHS spokesperson.
The move is part of a broader crackdown on immigration under Trump, who has pledged to deport “millions” of undocumented migrants. His administration has also drawn criticism for harsh rhetoric, including labeling some migrants as “animals” and “monsters.”
Just last month, the Trump administration rescinded the legal status of 532,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, giving them only weeks to leave the country.
The termination notices were delivered via email, citing discretionary authority under U.S. immigration law to revoke parole status.
Critics have raised concerns about the humanitarian impact of the sweeping deportation orders, especially on families who had begun establishing lives under the Biden-era policy.
