The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area have empowered over 800 youths by providing vocational skills training through the Kendoo free summer vocational and technical training programme.
The initiative, aimed at tackling unemployment, equips young people with practical skills for sustainable livelihoods.
The Council Chairman, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede, announced the achievement on Friday during a graduation ceremony at the Oshodi-Isolo legislative building. He stated that the programme is designed to address the growing challenge of unemployment by equipping participants with hands-on skills for entrepreneurship and career development.
“Today, no fewer than 800 adults and youths in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area have completed the training. This is a moment to be proud of all that you have accomplished and to look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in your various fields,” Oloyede said.
Beneficiaries received training across various sectors, including technology, beauty care, chemical, and household equipment classes.
The initiative encourages participants to stay committed and resilient when facing challenges, emphasizing the importance of practical skills for building sustainable careers.
The Coordinator of the UNDP Vocational Centre, Mr. Afees Adesanya, urged graduates to be consistent and trustworthy in their work.
Vice Chairman Mrs. Modupeola Badmus-Aregbe also highlighted the initiative’s impact, noting that the vocational and technical skills programme is aimed at taking unemployed youths off the streets and making them useful to themselves and society.
The training programme reflects a collaborative effort to empower local youths and address unemployment through skill acquisition, providing participants with tools and knowledge to build successful futures.
