WHO Seeks $87.4 Million for Mpox Outbreak Response

The World Health Organization (WHO) is urgently requesting $87.4 million to combat the ongoing Mpox outbreak.

This funding, needed over the next six months from September 2024 to February 2025, will support WHO’s efforts in collaboration with countries, partners, and other stakeholders.

The funds will be allocated to implement critical activities outlined in the global Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan (SPRP), which WHO released on August 26.

The SPRP serves as a comprehensive framework guiding the global response to Mpox, focusing on surveillance, research, equitable access to medical treatments, and community empowerment.

Following the global emergency declaration on August 14, WHO emphasized the need for immediate donor support to prevent further spread and protect at-risk populations.

The funding will enable WHO to coordinate responses, provide technical assistance, manage operations, and deliver essential medical supplies across its headquarters, regional, and country offices.
