The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has praised the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday, which nullified the recent local government elections in Rivers State and affirmed the legitimacy of the 27-member Martin Amaewhule-led State Assembly.
Speaking in Abuja after the verdict, Wike stated that the apex court’s decision marks the end of impunity in Rivers State.
Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike also criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, accusing them of endorsing lawlessness in the state.
Wike asserted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no option but to fully adhere to the Supreme Court’s ruling, as it stands as the ultimate legal authority on the matter.
The ruling represents a significant turning point in Rivers State’s ongoing political crisis, affirming the authority of the Amaewhule-led Assembly while overturning the disputed local government elections.
