The national power grid has experienced its fifth collapse this year, leaving numerous areas without electricity. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) reported that the grid failure occurred at approximately 2:55 pm on Monday.
In a statement on X, AEDC acknowledged the issue, saying, “We understand that some of our customers are still without power due to a system failure from the national grid at 2:55 pm today, 5th August 2024.”
While the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not yet issued a statement, AEDC reassured customers that efforts are underway to restore power. “The system is gradually stabilising, and we are working diligently with all relevant stakeholders to restore power to the affected areas as quickly as possible,” the company stated.
This marks the fifth grid collapse in 2024, with previous incidents occurring on February 4, March 28, April 15, and July 6.
