On Friday morning, a series of traffic accidents in Lagos resulted in significant casualties and road disruptions.
A fully loaded Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus overturned on its side within the dedicated BRT lane along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway near Iyana-Ipaja around 7:45 a.m., leaving 10 people injured, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, providing medical aid and transporting the injured to nearby healthcare facilities. The cause of the accident and the condition of the victims are yet to be confirmed.
In another incident, a loaded truck fell at Durbar Junction on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, completely blocking the road inward to Alakija.
The accident, reported around 7:22 a.m., has caused significant traffic disruptions, with vehicles being diverted through the service lane from Orile heading towards Durbar.
LASTMA officials are currently working to clear the obstruction and transload the truck’s contents.
Additionally, a road crash involving two vehicles occurred opposite Northwest, heading inward Ajah. LASTMA attributed the crash to over-speeding, which resulted in one person being injured.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and patience as they navigate these areas, with efforts underway to restore normal traffic flow.
