In a surprising turn of events, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has rejected a offer from Chelsea and instead joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season-long loan.
Just days ago, Chelsea had reached an agreement with Osimhen and other football icons, but the 24-year-old forward turned down the Blues’ offer on Monday, September 2nd.
Galatasaray quickly swooped in, expressing interest in Osimhen and securing his services on a straight loan deal without a buy clause. The Turkish club reached an agreement in principle with Napoli, Osimhen’s parent club, to bring the Nigerian international to Istanbul.
However, Osimhen has requested two key concessions from Napoli as part of the loan deal. Firstly, he wants the release clause in his contract reduced from €130m to €75m, making it easier for top clubs to sign him in the future. Secondly, he has asked for a break clause in January, allowing him to leave Galatasaray if a top club comes calling.
Osimhen arrived in Istanbul today to begin his loan spell at Galatasaray, marking a new chapter in his career.
This move is sure to raise eyebrows in the football world, as Osimhen had been linked with several top clubs this summer. Will this loan deal be a stepping stone to bigger things for the talented Nigerian striker? Only time will tell.
