President Bola Tinubu has approved the commencement of the 2024 National Honours Award to recognize Nigerians and friends of Nigeria who have significantly contributed to the country’s development.
The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Zaphaniah Jisalo, announced this during Tuesday’s meeting with the ministry’s management staff in Abuja.
Jisalo stated that the awards would also honor Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavor. He emphasized that the forms and processes involved in the national honours award are free of charge and urged the public to avoid paying for the recognition.
The minister called on the public to watch for upcoming calls for nominations and to present individuals who have made notable contributions to uplifting the nation and its people.
“This is in accordance with the National Honours Award Act 2004. The Act took retrospective effect from 1963,” Jisalo said, highlighting the legal framework guiding the awards.
The National Honours are among Nigeria’s highest civilian awards, recognizing individuals for their exemplary service and dedication to the nation.
