The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has approved the appointment of Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, AS Akinlabi, as the new Service Public Relations Officer, effective immediately.
This was announced in a statement on Wednesday by the Principal Staff Officer to the Comptroller General, Dr. Adedotun Aridegbe. The statement, titled “New Spokesperson Appointed for Nigeria Immigration Service,” confirmed that Akinlabi replaces the outgoing Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Kenneth Udo, who has been reassigned as the Passport Control Officer for the Akwa Ibom State Command. His reassignment was included in the Senior Staff Posting Order released on January 31, 2025.
Akinlabi hails from Ibarapa Central Local Government Area in Oyo State.
AS Akinlabi is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a Master of Arts in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtained in 2003 and 2015, respectively.
Enlisted into the Nigeria Immigration Service on December 29, 2006, Akinlabi completed his Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School in Kano in December 2007. Throughout his career, he has attended numerous specialized courses in migration, security, and border management.
In January 2008, AS Akinlabi was posted to the Service Headquarters, where he gained extensive experience across various directorates, including Accounts and Finance, Protocol, Training and Staff Development, as well as Passport and Other Travel Documents.
He was also among the pioneer staff of the newly established Nigeria Immigration Service Contact Centre, where he served and later became the Second-in-Command (2 I/C) at the SERVICOM Unit, which plays a key role in public relations activities.
Before his recent appointment, Akinlabi served as an Immigration Attaché at the Embassy of Nigeria in The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands.
