The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed its members across the state’s 30 local government areas to stay at home until the ongoing political crisis in the councils is resolved.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the NLC Chairman in the state, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, instructed council workers not to withdraw their services due to security concerns at the local government level.
As the political crisis in Osun State remains unresolved, Governor Ademola Adeleke has sworn in newly elected council chairmen and councillors following Saturday’s election. However, he has instructed them not to report to the secretariats due to the ongoing impasse.
In a newly released statement, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting its members’ safety. He reiterated the directive for council workers to stay at home, emphasizing that their lives must not be put at risk.
The statement, titled “RE: SAFETY OF OUR MEMBERS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE,” reads:
“The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strongly reaffirms its earlier directive instructing all Local Government Area workers in the state to withdraw their services due to the ongoing political upheaval at their workplaces. This directive remains in effect as we continue to pray for peace in the state. Furthermore, we emphasize that the safety of our members at work is our utmost priority. We will not permit our members to operate in an environment plagued by insecurity.”
The Osun State Council of the NLC remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the rights and interests of workers and the public. We refuse to be intimidated or silenced by desperate attempts to suppress our stance. Our resolve to uphold justice, fairness, and the rule of law in our beloved state remains unwavering.
