Tinubu’s Intervention Ends Lagos Assembly Leadership Crisis As Obasa Returns As Speaker

Mudashiru Obasa has made a dramatic return as Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, following a series of events allegedly orchestrated by President Bola Tinubu.

This development brings an end to the Assembly’s leadership crisis, which began on January 13 when Obasa was removed as Speaker.

The lawmakers, who had previously voted to remove Obasa, reluctantly accepted the resignation of Hon. Mojisola Meranda, who had taken over as Speaker. Meranda will now return to her former position as Deputy Speaker. Other changes include Hon. Sanni Okanlawon resigning as Deputy Chief Whip, and Hon. Setonji David resigning as Chief Whip, only to be re-elected as Deputy Chief Whip.

President Tinubu’s influence played a significant role in Obasa’s reinstatement. Sources claim that Tinubu considered Obasa’s removal as a “coup” against him and had told party leaders that the punishment for such an act would be “death.”

The Assembly’s leadership crisis has caused significant damage to all parties involved, including President Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the party itself. The crisis has also highlighted Tinubu’s significant influence over the party and the state’s governance.
