Protesters in Abuja’s Maitama district were dispersed by the Nigeria Police Force using tear gas on Monday.
The demonstration, led by the Take-It-Back Movement and other civil society organizations, aimed to draw attention to pressing national issues.
The protesters, carrying placards with slogans like “Stop the Repression” and “Let Us Breathe,” marched peacefully through the streets of the Federal Capital Territory before being dispersed by police. Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore was present to show solidarity with the movement.
The nationwide protest was coordinated by the Take-It-Back Movement, with similar demonstrations reported in Lagos and other state capitals. The National Coordinator of the movement, Juwon Sanyaolu, stated that the protest aimed to resist the government’s “increasing authoritarianism” and demand urgent relief for Nigerians struggling with economic hardship and insecurity.
