Hilda Baci Receives Guinness World Record for Largest Serving of Nigerian Style Jollof Rice

By Johnson Esther- The wait is over. Nigerian culinary sensation Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has officially received recognition from Guinness World Records for cooking the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.

The confirmation was announced on Guinness’ verified social media, bringing a wave of excitement across Nigeria and beyond.

The record-breaking achievement took place on September 12, 2025, during the World Jollof Festival in Victoria Island, Lagos. Hilda and her team, in collaboration with food brand Gino, prepared a staggering 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds, 9 ounces) of jollof rice in a specially constructed giant pot designed for the challenge. It lasted nine hours, drawing massive crowds and transforming the festival into a historic moment for African cuisine.

With this new jollof rice record, Hilda has not only reclaimed her place in the Guinness annals but also deepened her legacy as one of Nigeria’s most inspiring culinary figures.

The logistics behind the jollof record were monumental. More than 200 bags of rice were used, alongside thousands of kilograms of tomatoes, onions, peppers, and seasoning. Once the rice was cooked and weighed, it was distributed to festival attendees, ensuring that the achievement was not only about numbers but also about community, culture, and celebration.

For Nigerians, the symbolism of this achievement cannot be overstated. By securing a Guinness World Record with this beloved dish of Jollof rice, Hilda has elevated its global status while reinforcing Nigeria’s culinary reputation on the international stage.

The official confirmation from Guinness was met with nationwide jubilation. Every supporter has flooded social media with congratulations, and hailed the recognition as a victory not just for Hilda but for Nigeria itself.

With her Guinness World Record now certified, Hilda Baci has proven once again that ambition, discipline, and creativity can turn even the simplest ingredients into history.

She didn’t just cook rice, she cooked a moment the world will never forget.
