Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho has alleged that politicians may be behind the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, describing the incident as part of a broader insecurity challenge facing the South-West.
Reacting to the kidnapping of pupils and staff in Oriire Local Government Area, Igboho argued that such operations could not be carried out without the backing of powerful sponsors. He called for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
The activist also renewed his appeal to the Federal Government, South-West governors, and security agencies to approve his proposed “Iru Ekun Security Network,” which he says is designed to flush out kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal elements operating in forests across Yorubaland. According to him, preparations for the initiative are already complete, but implementation requires official authorization.
Igboho expressed sympathy for the affected families and warned that continued delays in tackling insecurity could expose more communities to similar attacks. He maintained that his team is ready to support efforts against criminal groups but would only operate within a legally approved security framework.
The Oyo school abduction has sparked widespread public concern and renewed debate over security in the region, with civil society groups, lawmakers, and community leaders calling for intensified rescue efforts and stronger preventive measures.
However, as of now, no public evidence has been presented linking any specific politicians to the abduction, and the allegations remain claims that would require investigation by the relevant security authorities.
