The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, summoned Senator Ali Ndume on Tuesday to address his recent comments about President Bola Tinubu, which resulted in his removal as Senate Whip.
After the meeting, Dr. Ganduje announced that the party was satisfied with Ndume’s apology and would inform the Senate leadership, hoping for a reconsideration of their decision.
Ndume was dismissed following a complaint from the NWC to the Senate, headed by Godswill Akpabio, about his remarks regarding Tinubu. Speaking at the APC’s national secretariat, Ganduje emphasized the party’s role in resolving internal disputes, expressing confidence that the apology would lead to a positive outcome in the National Assembly.
Ndume acknowledged his error in addressing certain issues publicly rather than through the party leadership. He admitted that his actions, though well-intentioned, were misplaced and pledged to handle future concerns within the party framework. Ndume clarified that he had not been expelled and reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, describing it as his political home.
He stated, “Yesterday, I was invited by the party, and we had a family discussion. I accepted my mistake of not consulting the party first. Moving forward, I will ensure my concerns are directed to the party. My actions were driven by patriotism, even if expressed strongly. I did not insult the President or the party but failed to engage the party appropriately.”
Ndume stressed that his relationship with the party and the President remained intact, underscoring his loyalty and dedication to the APC.
