Empowering the Electorate: PAACA Urges Media to Champion Electoral Act

In a bid to empower the electorate and promote a better understanding of the electoral process, the Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA) recently organized a one-day capacity-building workshop for media, traditional, and religious institutions in Lagos.

Addressing journalists at the event, PAACA’s Executive Director, Ezenwa Nwagwu, emphasized the importance of the electoral act, stating that “the document by which we select our leaders is the electoral act. It outlines how leaders emerge.

If a leader’s economic policy renders your account empty, your ATM card becomes useless.

Therefore, the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) has supremacy over the ATM.”

Nwagwu noted that the workshop aimed to equip journalists, traditional, and religious institutions with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively understand and communicate the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

“The main objective is to popularize the electoral act. We are working to ensure that electoral knowledge is widespread. We want to partner with the media to disseminate information about the electoral act to Nigerians.”

PAACA urged the media to emphasize the importance of the electoral act to Nigerians, suggesting that this would encourage better-informed decisions by the electorate.

With Nigeria’s democratic future at stake, understanding the electoral act is crucial for a brighter tomorrow.”
