Kano State has enjoyed peace, stability, and renewed development in the last two years under the administration of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State.
This progress followed the bold and constitutionally grounded decision of the Governor to restore the dignity and sanctity of the Kano Emirate by reversing its balkanisation and removing Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir. That action, taken in line with the powers conferred on the Governor by the Constitution and the Kano State Emirate Council Law as passed by the State House of Assembly, was not only legal but in the best interest of the state.
It is, therefore, disturbing that some agents of confusion, led by Baba Agundi and other loyalists of the deposed Emir, have continued to act as tools of distraction, seeking to overheat the polity and drag Kano back to an era of division and confusion.
What is more worrisome is that these agents are clearly unsettled by the massive support Gov. Abba has been able to mobilise for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party.
Their recent antics are orchestrated with negative intent to portray the Governor as weak and to sow disaffection between him and the Presidency.
If it is not provocation, what warranted the recent horse riding? This is not a festive period. There is no Sallah or any celebration that calls for Hawan Doki.
The display was nothing but a deliberate provocation, designed to disturb public peace and test the resolve of a law abiding government.
The truth is that Governor Abba’s support for Pres. Tinubu is driven by statesmanship, patriotism and a genuine desire to align Kano with the Federal Government for the benefit of the people.
While this noble move has attracted commendation nationwide, it has unsettled detractors who thrive on crisis.
Gov. Yusuf, however, remains too focused to be distracted. His attention is firmly fixed on delivering good governance through massive infrastructural renewal, educational reforms and people centred empowerment programmes.
Gov. Abba is a law abiding leader. Since the matter is before the court, he has continued to respect the rule of law and has not moved against anybody, despite unwarranted provocations.
But my advice to these individuals is simple: they should not mistake the humility and kindness of the Governor for weakness. Gov. Abba is a firm, decisive and dogged leader. He is humane and peace loving, yet he will not fold his arms and allow a few disgruntled elements to jeopardise the peace and progress of Kano State.
Chieftaincy matters fall under the exclusive control of the State Government.
The court has spoken, the Assembly has spoken, and the people of Kano have moved on.
We call on security agencies to check these agents of destabilisation, and urge the good people of Kano to ignore their theatrics and continue to support the administration of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Kano must move forward.
