Kano Fire Service Records 58 Fire Incidents, 13 Deaths in May

The Kano State Fire Service recorded 58 fire incidents and 13 deaths across the state in May 2026.

The figures were disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the Director of the Service, Sani Anas, provided the details while presenting a summary of the agency’s operational activities for the month.

Anas revealed that the Fire Service responded to 80 emergency calls between May 1 and May 31, including fire outbreaks, rescue operations, and false alarms.

“Out of the total calls received, 58 were fire incidents, 15 were rescue operations, while seven were false alarms,” he stated.

The Director explained that the 13 fatalities recorded during the period resulted from various incidents, including fire outbreaks, road traffic accidents, and emergencies involving ponds and wells.

Despite the losses, he noted that the Service successfully rescued numerous individuals during emergency operations across the state.

“We successfully saved 34 lives during our rescue operations across the state,” Anas said.

He further disclosed that while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire, firefighters were able to save assets of far greater value through prompt intervention.

According to the agency, the estimated value of property lost to fire during the month stood at more than ₦144 million, while property valued at approximately ₦437 million was salvaged.

Anas urged residents to be more safety-conscious and adopt preventive measures to reduce the occurrence of fire outbreaks and other avoidable emergencies.

“We are calling on members of the public to adopt proper fire safety measures to prevent avoidable disasters,” he said.

The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while encouraging citizens to promptly report emergencies for swift response.
