Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have arrived at the State High Court in Ikeja for the hearing of a case filed by their colleague and Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Obasa is contesting his removal from office by 36 lawmakers on January 13, 2025, following allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power.
The respondents in the suit include the lawmakers and Princess Mojisola Meranda, who was initially elected to replace Mudashiru Obasa following his removal from office.
Meranda recently stepped down to allow for Obasa’s reinstatement, stating that her decision was made out of respect for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership.
When the case was first heard on February 20, 2025, Mr. Afolabi Fashanu (SAN) represented Obasa, while Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), Mr. Muiz Banire (SAN), and a team of other lawyers appeared on behalf of 34 lawmakers.
Additionally, Mr. Olu Daramola (SAN) and Mr. Dada Awosika (SAN) represented other members of the House who sought to be joined in the suit. Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) led a group of senior lawyers to represent Meranda.
In a brief ruling before adjourning the case to March 7 for the hearing of pending preliminary objections, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro ordered that all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly be joined as parties in the suit.
