OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has secured $40 billion in new funding to accelerate AI research, expand its computing infrastructure, and improve its technology offerings.
In a blog post on Monday, OpenAI announced that the funding round values the company at $300 billion post-money.
The investment will enable OpenAI to advance AI capabilities, with a focus on scientific breakthroughs, personalized education, and fostering human creativity.

SoftBank Group is among the key investors in this round. “Few companies understand how to scale transformative technology like SoftBank,” OpenAI noted.
OpenAI stated that the partnership aligns with its long-term goal of developing artificial general intelligence to benefit humanity.
The funding announcement comes just a week after the company introduced a major update to ChatGPT, integrating image generation directly into the chatbot.
Backed by Microsoft, OpenAI described the update—which enables users to create and edit images using GPT-4o—as a significant step toward making image creation a central feature of AI-driven communication.
As part of the rollout, OpenAI showcased a sample image highlighting improved text accuracy in AI-generated visuals compared to previous models.
