Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for next year, a group within the Ekiti State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) has cautioned Governor Biodun Oyebanji to be wary of former governor Ayodele Fayose if he hopes to win re-election back to office.
The group, Ekiti Collectives in APC (EC-APC) in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital described the purported endorsement of Governor Oyebanji by Fayose as a Greek gift which he (Oyebanji) should reject.
In a statement issued by the National Leader of EC-APC, Mr. Olatunde Aluko on Saturday made available to newsmen in reaction to the close relationship between the two, added that nothing good will come out of it for the governor.
“I’m appealing to our amiable governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji to rethink his relationship with former governor Ayodele Fayose who is not a member of our party.
“This appeal is because it beats sound logic and reason to wonder how a governor seeking election on one party is befriending the leader of not just an opposition party but the leader of the major opposition party.
“This is why we are calling on the governor to beat a hasty retreat if he seeks to return to office for second term,” the statement reads.
Aluko on behalf of the group urged former governor Fayose to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) for the APC if he is indeed helping the re-election bid of Governor Oyebanji.
On why he (Fayose) should dump the PDP, Aluko stated that it was the right thing to do to prove his sincerely and love for the governor.
“We are aware that one of the younger brothers of the former governor, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose is a member of the PDP and the leading aspirant contesting the governorship ticket of the party where his elder brother is the leader.
“This is a dangerous signal which I don’t want Governor Oyebanji to discountenance considering how dangerous it would be to entrust his re-election bid to an opposition leader, whose brother is the favorite to clinch the opposition PDP ticket ,” the group wrote.
Aluko however added that the best thing for the governor to do at this material time is to enlist the support of former Governor Kayode Fayemi, Sen. Bamidele Opeyemi, Mr. Dele Alake etc this are those who made it possible to ensure his first term election rather than one who want to reap where he didn’t sow.
“At this point, the only logical thing for the governor to do is to return to former governor Kayode Fayemi who is the authentic leader of our great party (APC) in Ekiti State, anything short of that will spell doom for him and his re-election bid,” the group concluded.
