Seven Civilians Killed in Russian Strike on Kherson Market

A Russian artillery strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson killed seven civilians early Tuesday morning, the Kherson regional prosecutor’s office reported.

The attack, which occurred near a local market and public transport stop, left three women and four men dead.

The strike, which took place at around 9 a.m. local time (0600 GMT), scattered debris and broken glass across the market, as shown in video footage released by the region’s governor. Bodies were seen lying on the pavement amid the wreckage.

The city of Kherson, located on the western bank of the Dnipro River, has been under frequent shelling since Russian forces withdrew from the area in November 2022.

Despite the withdrawal, Russian troops have maintained their position on the eastern side of the river, regularly targeting the city.

Ukrainian authorities continue to condemn the strikes on civilian areas, as the war in Ukraine drags on with intense fighting along the front lines.
