IGP Orders Arrest of Shi’ite Procession Attackers

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate arrest of those responsible for the deaths of two police officers during a recent procession by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as the Shi’ite group, in Abuja.

The police also reported that three other officers were left unconscious and are currently hospitalized following the attack.

According to a statement released by the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force condemned the “unprovoked” attack, labeling it as an assault on peace and order.

The statement also highlighted that 97 suspects have been apprehended and several weapons recovered in connection with the incident.

Egbetokun vowed to ensure the remaining suspects are brought to justice, emphasizing the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the country.

He expressed condolences to the families of the fallen officers and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The Shi’ite group, however, has claimed that police officers were responsible for the deaths and injuries of several of their members during the procession in the Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The police urged public cooperation in their efforts to prevent further violence and maintain stability amid rising extremist threats.
