The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has criticized the process leading to his removal by lawmakers. Speaking publicly about his impeachment for the first time on Saturday, Obasa emphasized the need for lawmakers to adhere to constitutional procedures in removing a speaker.
He also dismissed the corruption allegations leveled against him, labeling claims of financial misappropriation as “baseless” and “impossible.”
“I am not disturbed, and I am not afraid,” Mudashiru Obasa said regarding the recent developments at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa alleged that the Commissioner of Police in the state led security agents to invade the assembly ahead of his removal. He claimed that his Agege and Ikeja residences were invaded by over 200 policemen, who locked his family indoors. He said, “If I am not speaker, that’s not the end of the world. If you want to claim that I am corrupt, please prove it. “It’s possible to construct a gate, ordinary gate with N16bn? When it’s not Jericho wall,” he further stated.
Obasa addressed a large crowd of supporters gathered at the Speaker’s Lodge, located at 47 GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
