The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Yobe State reported the seizure of over 537 kilograms of illicit substances and the arrest of 46 suspects in 2024.
The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr. Abdulazeez Ogungboye, disclosed this on Tuesday in Damaturu during a review of the agency’s activities over the past year.
He stated that the confiscated drugs included 396.526 kilograms of marijuana and 141.2 kilograms of psychotropic substances.
Ogungboye further revealed that the agency had secured 21 convictions from 46 individuals charged, while 85 cases remained pending at the Federal High Court, Damaturu Division.
The NDLEA Commander, Mr. Abdulazeez Ogungboye, disclosed that the agency provided counseling interventions to 219 individuals struggling with drug dependency and conducted awareness campaigns across communities, schools, faith-based organizations, and workplaces.
He highlighted the success of a mini rehabilitation center established by the command, which graduated five individuals after a three-month program. Additionally, the agency expanded its outreach by establishing five rural outposts across the state.
Ogungboye called on the Yobe State Government to establish a standard rehabilitation center to replace the current improvised facility, which has a limited capacity of 16 inmates.
While expressing gratitude to the Mai Mala Buni-led administration and other sister agencies for their support throughout the year, Ogungboye reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to achieving a drug-free society.
