President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality across the country, declaring that Nigeria will never surrender to forces seeking to undermine its peace and security.
The President made the declaration through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja on Sunday as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebrations.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Akume assured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains steadfast in its efforts to strengthen security operations nationwide and secure the release of citizens held captive by criminal groups.
He noted that recent attacks and kidnappings in parts of the country underscore the need for sustained and coordinated action by security agencies to restore peace and protect lives and property.
“The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” Akume said while delivering the President’s message. “Protecting the lives and property of Nigerians remains a top priority of this administration.”
The President also acknowledged the economic difficulties confronting many citizens and assured Nigerians that his administration is implementing measures aimed at easing hardship and improving the delivery of democratic dividends.
According to him, the government is fully aware of public concerns regarding insecurity, inflation, and displacement in some parts of the country and is responding with renewed urgency and determination.
Tinubu emphasized that while significant challenges remain, his administration is committed to ensuring a safer, more secure, and prosperous Nigeria through sustained reforms, enhanced security measures, and inclusive development initiatives.
The Democracy Day church service brought together government officials, religious leaders, and citizens who offered prayers for national unity, peace, and continued democratic progress in the country.
