Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the bail previously granted to Omoyele Sowore following his failure to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.
The decision was announced during proceedings on Tuesday after the prosecution informed the court that the defendant was absent despite being aware of the scheduled hearing date.
Counsel to the prosecution, Kehinde Akinlolu, told the court that Sowore had failed to honour the conditions attached to his bail by not appearing before the court as required.
Justice Umar subsequently revoked the bail earlier granted to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), citing his absence from the proceedings.
The development marks a significant turn in the ongoing case, with the court expected to determine the next legal steps regarding Sowore’s trial and his status before the court.
Further details on the reasons for his absence and any applications that may be filed by his legal team are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
