Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo, introducing the biggest redesign of the iPhone in years.
Unveiled on September 9, the iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone and features a 7.6-inch inner display when opened, making it the largest display ever fitted to an iPhone. When folded, it uses a 5.4-inch outer display designed to retain a compact, pocket-friendly form.
Apple said the device combines a new foldable hardware design with a reimagined iOS experience, allowing users to multitask, watch content, play games, and use different orientations in ways not possible on conventional iPhones.
The company has also focused heavily on the device’s durability. The Duo features a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover, Ceramic Shield protection and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Its inner display also uses a special nano-texture finish designed to minimise glare.
Powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, supported by an advanced thermal-management system and dual-battery architecture.
The foldable also supports Apple Pencil, while its redesigned software allows two apps to be displayed side by side on the larger internal screen.
Apple has positioned the device as both a productivity and entertainment tool, effectively bringing a larger, tablet-like viewing experience into a phone-sized device.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone to date. Storage options extend up to 2TB.
Apple will begin taking pre-orders for the iPhone Duo on October 16, with the device scheduled to go on sale on October 23, 2026. It will be available in Night Sky and Star White finishes.
The launch marks Apple’s long-awaited entry into a foldable-phone market already dominated by Samsung, Google and Chinese manufacturers. Analysts expect Apple’s presence to give the category a major boost, although the Duo’s premium price could limit it largely to affluent consumers and early adopters.
