Bauchi State To Establish Mining Firm For Economic Growth

The Bauchi State Government has approved the establishment of the Bauchi-Mingsheng Company as part of efforts to create job opportunities, boost the state’s internally generated revenue, and unlock economic potential.

This development was announced by the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Maiwada Bello, during a press briefing held after the State Executive Council Meeting on Friday. The newly-formed mining company will focus on the exploration and extraction of monoxide, tin/columbite, zircon, and other rare earth elements in the Toro and Dass Local Government Areas. According to Bello, this initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to positioning Bauchi as a vibrant investment and business destination.

He recalled that in 2023, a delegation led by Governor Bala Mohammed visited Shandong Province in the People’s Republic of China to attract investors to Bauchi State.

“The visit has started yielding significant results, leading to the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with various companies across sectors such as mining, agriculture, tourism, and others. This progress laid the foundation for the establishment of the Bauchi-Mingsheng Company,” he explained.

Bello added that the initiative followed subsequent visits by Mingsheng officials and their technical personnel, who expressed strong interest in investing in the exploration and mining of monoxide, tin/columbite, zircon, and other rare earth elements in the Toro and Dass Local Government Areas.

Maiwada Bello emphasized that the initiative underscores the government’s dedication to promoting public-private partnerships and diversifying Bauchi State’s economy. He expressed optimism that, with effective management, the company could foster innovation, attract investments, and significantly improve the living standards of the state’s residents.

Bello described the establishment of the Bauchi-Mingsheng Company as a major step toward economic growth and development. “By seizing new opportunities, the company is expected to create jobs and boost the state’s internally generated revenue,” he stated. The initiative is also expected to drive industrial growth by supporting local industries that rely on raw materials such as tin, monoxide, and ilmenite, which are crucial for technology and construction sectors. Additionally, infrastructure development will be prioritized, as mining projects often lead to improved facilities such as roads and other benefits for surrounding communities,” he added.

Maiwada further assured the public of his ministry’s commitment to collaborating with other arms of government to boost revenue generation for the state.
