Ex-President, Muhammadu Buhari, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he remains a committed member and will do everything within his power to strengthen the party.
This declaration comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Buhari expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have served as Nigeria’s leader under the APC, considering it the “highest honor” and not seeking anything more from the party. He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the APC’s founding fathers, emphasizing the importance of cherishing and sustaining their efforts in building a strong party that protects democracy and upholds the constitution.
In a statement released by his former spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari made it clear that he would never abandon the party that gave him the platform to lead Nigeria for two terms. “I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularize the party by all means,” he said.
Buhari’s statement comes after key political figures, including former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, left the APC citing “ideological differences and internal crises.” Although Buhari didn’t directly mention El-Rufai, his assertion of loyalty sends a strong message amid ongoing political realignments, signaling his commitment to the party despite defections by former associates.
