The Federal Government will today arraign leaders and organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protests, held from August 1 to 10, 2024, on charges of treason, inciting mutiny, and intent to destabilize Nigeria.
Ten defendants, including Michael Adaramoye (aka Lenin), Adeyemi Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaoluwa Simon, and Angel Innocent, will appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court.
Others to be arraigned include Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nuradeen Khamis, and Abdulsalam Zubairu.
A British citizen, Andrew Wynne (aka Andrew Povich), is also named in the charges.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, filed a six-count charge against the protesters, accusing them of conspiring to destabilize the country and intimidating the President.
The charges allege the defendants engaged in treasonous acts between July 1 and August 4, 2024, contrary to Section 95 and punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code.
The defendants are also accused of inciting mutiny, attacking police officers, and destroying government properties, including police stations, courts, and the NCC complex in Kano.
The IG alleges they conspired to wage war against the state, which violates Section 410 of the Penal Code and collaborated with Wynne to incite public disaffection through protest actions.
