A lion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has killed its handler, Babaji Daule.
The 35-year-old was mauled to death on Saturday while feeding the lion after park hours.
According to the park management, Daule had neglected to secure the locks and barricade of the lion’s enclosure during a feeding demonstration for guests. The lion attacked and killed him on the spot.
The park confirmed that personnel put down the animal to prevent further harm. The incident occurred outside the park’s standard feeding routine, the management said.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the death, stating the lion inflicted fatal injuries to Daule’s neck. The handler’s body has been deposited at Ijaye General Hospital mortuary.
The park’s management extended condolences to Daule’s family and reassured the public of its commitment to safety measures for visitors, staff, and animals.
