Olorunfemi Oluwajekoyemi Michael, a talented academic and writer who lost his balance at the age of 5 after taken a polio vaccine, has turned the struggles and challenges of his life into a story of resilience and a greater source of inspiration for others.
In a recent interview with Azeezat Olaide Runmonkun, Yemi shared how he overcame the challenges of his disability and thrived, thanks to the support of his family, friends and well-wishers.
His journey that began 35 years ago testifies to his strength and determination to succeed.
Despite the fact that he lost his first admission into Obafemi Awolowo University in 1997 after the sudden death of his mother and the financial collapse of his father, he remained determined to achieve his dreams. The emotional and financial support of his grandfather was essential to help him do his best in his studies.
Yemi is from a polygamous home. He is the oldest child among his mother’s children. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in History and Diplomatic Studies from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. He graduated in 2011 with a Second Class Honors Upper (2.1) division. He also holds a Master’s Degree (Master of Arts-MA) in History and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos and graduated in 2016.
By November, 2024, he would have finished a Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Mass Communication at University of Lagos. God’s willing, he will start another Master’s Degree in Mass Communication at University of Lagos in 2025.
He is a Writer, Journalist, Writing and Speaking Skills Coach and the Founder of The Writing Service Hub.
Yemi encouraged other people living with disabilities to be resilient and determined in anything they do. That they should never allow their disability to limit their success in life by giving up on their dreams. He also encouraged the society to always treat PWDs with love, care and support.
